SCHC began taking preventive and protective measures from the start of the current situation affecting us all. As a critical part of the supply chain during this crisis, SCHC will remain operating safely and efficiently to meet any logistics and packaging needs. We’ve stepped up initial sanitation measures and efforts in our facilities as well as followed CDC guidelines for social distancing and face coverings. All while maintaining our usual, high standards for safety and sanitation. We plan to maintain these efforts well into the coming weeks.
We’ve kept truck drivers going with a snack pack to show our appreciation of their hard work. This appreciation extends as well to our employees, healthcare workers, partners, contract workers, and anyone doing their part to continue essential work in these tough times. Our team is staying safe and healthy to ensure that we continue to efficiently serve the community and our customers. SCHC will still only attend virtual meetings and conference calls at this time as we work to safely meet your logistics and packaging needs.
In the community, SCHC stepped up to support Houston Shift meal. As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, many workers in Houston’s hospitality industry have been affected by closures and layoffs. Houston Shift Meal is dedicated to providing these individuals with meals so that no one goes hungry. This organization is still accepting monetary sponsorships and donations from suppliers, businesses, and individuals who wish to help. These sponsorships will go to restaurant partners to help offset their costs as they take care of their industry family during these tough times. For every $250 sponsorship received, a restaurant will be able to produce anywhere between 50 and 75 meals. SCHC encourages anyone that is willing and able to support this effort. SCHC has also stepped up to support Second Ward Space and Plant It Forward Farms as they bring fresh, locally grown vegetables to Houston’s Second Ward and surrounding communities. Grocery shopping has become challenging as many have tighter or nonexistent budgets, and going to the store increases the risk of exposure. Meanwhile, restaurant closures have led to a 20% drop in revenue for Plant It Forward. This loss in revenue has threatened the livelihood of the refugee farmers who grow the produce. Second Ward Space and Plant It Forward Farms seized this opportunity to create a mutually beneficial partnership. Second Ward residents access healthy vegetables, delivered safely, and the farmers sustain their livelihood. SCHC is donating packaging and gifting orders of vegetables for this effort.
